Several of my favorite keepers are bald: Brad Friedel, Kasey Keller, Marcus Hahnemann, Tim Howard, and John Hillcoat.
The first four, of course, are Americans playing in the Premiership. The fifth is a 36-year-old journeyman Scottish keeper, currently the number one at Stenhousemuir. Hilly has played for a dozen clubs in Scotland, sometimes as the number one but more recently as a backup. It's great to see him carrying on and getting a regular game these days. We go back almost 20 years. The picture above is Hilly (on left) and me at Dunfermline Athletic in 1989, when Hilly was understudy to Ian Westwater and I was a trialist. He may have lost all, and I mean ALL, of his hair since then, but he's managed to stay in the game when most of the players he broke in with have been released or retired (there's a film director also named John Hillcoat, and he's also completely bald). Hilly has exceptionally fast reflexes and safe hands, which is why he's never been without a club. A man of many talents, he also writes a column for the Sunday Mail. Check it out:
